Series of Dreams

Series of Dreams is an interactive installation that invites you into a dreamlike environment — an Alternate Reality where perception, the laws of physics and form answer to forces greater than human comprehension. Walk around, discover, interact: acting as a recording dream machine, your interaction leaves an indelible trace, so that people are consciously connected to each other’s dreams.

The visual experience is built for an instantaneous, visceral reaction: the platform you stand on emits sound and moves kinematically with the reality you perceive. The physical and the virtual stay constantly linked — every cause in VR has its effect in the real world, whether a virtual object falls and tilts the floor or abstract particles produce sound vibrations.

Behind it: VR software development, sound design, a custom hi-fi sound system, interaction design, infrared sensors, kinematics, generative visuals, motion controllers and motor drives. The platform tilts up to 5° per side at 4”/sec on three electric pistons, while nine 18” subwoofers and nine full-range speakers beneath your feet make it — by design — pretty shaky.

The narrative travels through genres and visual languages: from atoms, molecules and proteins to living creatures, then to planets, systems and galaxies — dimensional passages from the abstract to the real, each carrying its own soundscape across a 120”×120” hi-fi system.
